White (D) narrowly defeats Edward Brooke (R). White receives 161,846 in Boston to Brooke’s 87,185. At age 31, the youngest Massachusetts constitutional officer in history, White resigns as Suffolk County assistant district attorney to take office and is replaced by Edward Kennedy.
